What do you need to get started in hydroponics? Well, you don’t have to have the items listed below, but for less than $100 they sure make it easier. If you’re already gardening, chances are they’re already in your possession.
- $20 ppm/EC/tds meter This device lets you see how many bits of things are in your water. You use it to know when to add nutrients to your water, if your plants are eating, etc etc. Uses magic pixies to measure electrical conductivity and math wizardry to count the bits that aren’t water.
- $30 nutrients It’s what your plants eat. You add it to the water, and measure it with the ppm/EC meter. Have I mentioned you shouldn’t buy liquid nutrients?
- $17 calcium/magnisuem Shame on you for buying liquid nutrients - you’re paying for mostly water. Be lazy and buy this, or get you some epsom salt and whatever the cheap off the shelf version of calcium is.
- $18 bacillus amyloliquefaciens You want me to spend more money on what? For the what? This stuff is maaaagic. You’ve never seen happier roots, nor a happier wallet. Compare to popular hydroguard brands. You need a wee bit of this in your system to eat all the bad things that cause root rot. These little guys love that stuff, and your plant roots couldn’t be more excited about it. All natural and organic - did I mention not to get this on your skin?
